In their annual search for the best makeup products, Allure magazine asked readers to chime in on their absolute, all-time favorite products. Readers got to hand out awards in two categories per product: one for discount/drugstore bargains and one for slightly more expensive fare found in department/makeup specialty stores.
Here’s how the top honors stacked up for 2010′s best makeup artist products!
Lips: A “muted mauve” took home the top prize for discount/drugstore find. The shade has light-reflecting particles that make lips look just a bit glowy in any light. As for a slightly more upscale lip look, a neutral pink won both for its complexion-friendly color and its worthiness as a feel-good buy. All sales of this lipstick benefit the M.A.C Aids Fund. In gloss looks, a “sophisticated berry” by L’Oreal and a soft pink version of the specialty/department store lipstick winner earned the top honors.
Blush: It comes as no surprise that the ever-popular Orgasm (don’t look at us, it’s really called that!) blush by Nars once again earned the top spot for favorite blush. The department store buy has been a consumer and makeup artist product favorite for years thanks to it’s “just back from a run” peach-colored glow. (Yes, a run. Get your mind out of the gutter!) As for discount store winners, a sweet pink called Natural Rose took the award for its ability to look great on every skin tone.
Eyes: When it comes to favorite eye looks, voters showed their undying love for sexy going-out colors by giving the discount store awards to a deep, sparkly black and “disco ball” silver palette called Metallic Shadow Duo as well as a double-ended eyeliner that featured a smudging tool built right in. As for department store buys, an eye-illuminating shade called Shroom (doubles as a cheekbone highlighter!) and a self-sharpening eye pencil called Blackest Black also got a nod.
Face: A crème foundation infused with moisturizer won the top spot for discount store foundation while a mineral foundation won in the department store category. For concealer, consumers still loved their minerals for a high-end look but gave the prize to a purse-friendly “coverstick” perfect for on-the-go touch ups.

When you’re in the middle of a panic attack, relief can seem very far away. Perhaps you’ve had the symptoms for so long now that they’ve become a regular part of your life. You don’t know what brought them on, you only know you want them to stop.
The great news is that you can rid yourself of these attacks forever. You might find yourself taking two steps forward and one step back, but if you stick to it, you will be the victor.
What genes you carry from your family can give you a predisposition to developing the condition. But it can also be stress that’s triggered the beginning of this cycle for you and without help, the cycle can drain your energy and leave you with less than the great life you should have.
Treating these attacks needs to be a priority because they can turn into severe phobias that can cause you even greater stress. It’s okay to attempt some self help steps if you think you don’t need or aren’t ready to talk to your doctor or other professional.
The attacks usually don’t last longer than a few minutes at a time. Don’t allow your mind to think about what hasn’t occurred and don’t drag past attacks up. Fearing an attack can actually cause an attack to happen. Put what’s happening in the right place in your mind. What you’re dealing with are emotions and not real circumstances.
More often than not, attacks are brought on by feelings that are a projection of a known or unknown fear and not a reality. Panic attack relief can be found by facing what it is you’re feeling the fear over.
If you’re afraid of a fire starting in your home, take steps to make sure you have a fire safety plan. Have your home checked by a qualified electrician. Keep a fire extinguisher where you can get to it.

If you feel anxious and stressed because of past attacks, that anxiety and stress can trigger another attack and each subsequent attack will only reiterate those emotions. Let someone know what you’re dealing with. Sometimes just getting those emotions out relieves the anxiety.
The anxiety doesn’t have to control your life and it doesn’t have to take away your ability to handle life. Don’t think you have to fight alone, not when panic attack relief can be as simple as a phone call or a getting a prescription filled. Panic Attack Relief Through Counseling Not only are there medical approaches to panic attack relief, there are counseling and biofeedback approaches that might be useful.
The counseling approach most often utilized is called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and this type of counseling will ask that you pay attention to your thinking and dispute thoughts which can begin the panic feeling.
A biofeedback approach, like heart rate variability biofeedback, can combine a powerful physiological training with the CBT.
I really like heart rate variability biofeedback personally because it feels good, and I can induce the feel good physiology on any given heart beat, and if I decide to pay attention to a fearful thought too long, I can switch out of that to a coherent thought in the proverbial heart beat.
In other words, I can practice heart rate variability biofeedback every five minutes for a couple of heart beats, and very soon my body gets used to this coherent physiology, and it doesn’t let me get too far away from it.
Other useful tools that I have discovered over the years are to remember that “Gratitude is the Attitude”, which certainly takes me away from the fearful thought.
I have also had a wonderful experience using the Open Focus model of Les Fehmi, Ph.D, which asks me to consider the space around the anxiety or my thought which brings the anxiety.
If you stop and think about it, there is a great deal of space, a universe of space around my thoughts and my body.
As a professional though, the heart rate variability biofeedback process is the one my clients find the most believable, because they see the process on the computer screen.
Clients seeing biofeeback experience that the learning is happening and are more confident that they can repeat the good feeling heart rate variability biofeedback on their own.

Anxiety attacks in children happen more often than you might think. Unlike adults, who can articulate what they’re feeling and know to seek assistance in order to deal with it, children don’t. So often, their anxiety is left untreated and they try to cope with it themselves. Parents need to understand and learn to recognize the signs of this condition so that they can get their child the treatment they need.
Understand that there can be several different manifestations – subheadings if you will – of anxiety that all fall under the same main heading. Children can experience what’s known as normal anxiety. They worry about what their future holds. Through the eyes of a child, the adult world can be a very scary place. They can hear things on the news that frighten them.
Experiencing the death of a classmate or a family member can leave them not knowing how to deal with fear – the fear of not understanding fully what happened and the fear of worrying if it’s going to happen to them too. These are normal worries. Love and reassurance can help your child deal with this kind of anxiety.
When it becomes abnormal is when the worry doesn’t let up but rather snowballs. The anxiety deepens and they begin to worry all the time. You might even recognize this by what some doctors call irrational fears.
Anxiety attacks in children can be a forerunner of a type of disorder that some children experience. Children might exhibit signs of anxiety by failing to be able to function in a normal setting. If they’re younger, they might begin acting out at school. Their behavior turns belligerent, their emotions seem to swing from one extreme to the other. Remember that children often feel things but just don’t know how to communicate exactly what it is they’re dealing with.
The physical signs that a child is dealing with anxiety are the same as it is in adults. They might complain of headaches, stomachaches and they might have a difficult time going to sleep at night.
If children have attacks that are not handled the right way and treated, it can have lasting effects reaching into their adulthood. They can have trouble developing friendships and trouble dealing the social pressure that kids get in school.
It’s so important that anxiety attacks in children be dealt with as swiftly as possible because children don’t have the ability to rationalize like an adult can. Continual attacks can leave them feeling like there’s no way out and they might begin to cause themselves harm physically.
In some cases, untreated anxiety can lead children to think about taking their own lives. It’s up to the caring adult in the child’s life to learn to recognize the symptoms of anxiety and reach out to help the child when he or she is unable to do so.
An excellent resource for working with anxiety attacks in children is a book written by Dr. Daniel Amen, called Mind Coach.
I use Mind Coach with my Anger Management and Domestic Violence clients because it clearly and succinctly outlines limited patterns of thinking, and it is related very closely to the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy tool called automatic thoughts.
There is a excellent passage in Mind Coach that says the Bible has about 800 happy references, and if God mentions happiness that often, it must be because he wants us to be happy.
I love to ask my clients why they don’t program happiness for themselves more often.
Most of us have lost sight of the fact that feelings are contingent only on thoughts, not on what is external to the body, and that even though the external world presents difficulties, I can feel however I choose to feel whenever I choose to feel that.
Children can pick that up rather quickly, with their connection to their imagination.

Use a towel to remove any sweat on your body and wait at least 20 minutes before showering, eating or drinking cold drinks.

Sure you should be eating 6 smaller meals a day, and those smaller meals should be whole fresh foods but lets face it we are all human and we sometimes miss the boat. The important thing is that we continuing to fuel our bodies well, if that means eating at 9 then so be it. It would definitely be better if you didn’t scarf down a cheesecake blizzard with a double quarter pounder with cheese, but that is just common sense.
Eat healthy whole foods and ensure that your body is well nourished, while continuing to exercise intensely. It wont matter if you have supper a bit later once in a while, we are all busy and we need to ensure that our diets can fit our schedules.
Nutrition Myth 3 – You Need Your Protein Shake
Listen, I am an expert who is in favour of having a protein shake after your workouts. This is because in my opinion there is no better way to get your muscles the protein and carbs they need immediately after a workout. That being said there are a number of well respected experts out there that think that everyone needs a couple protein shakes every day. This is simply not the case. Your body needs about 1 gram of protein for every pound of lean muscle. This doesn’t mean you have to choke down protein shake after protein shake everyday. Let’s look at an example for men and women.
An average 175 pound guy a 145 pound lady each with 20 percent body fat. This means that they guy has about 140 pounds of lean muscle and the lady has about 115 pounds of lean muscle. This is really not difficult to get in a single day out of a balanced diet.
So while I do recommend having a protein shake after a workout, it is more for convenience than anything else. If you want to scarf down a chicken breast and some salad or rice right after you work out, but if you are anything like me a protein shake works better in this situation. But on non workout days, there is no need for me to mix up protein shakes because I have no problem meeting my daily needs for protein intake. A routine is about repeated activity which leads to certain overall growth and development. It does not mean that you stay at the same thing that all the time.
