Facts on Orthotic

Orthotic is a branch of health that is involved with the designing of gadgets used to reinforce and restore the role of the limb. These gadgets are known as orthoses. They are meant for use by people with medical and physical abnormalities of their feet which give them pain and irritation when they are wearing ordinary shoes and standing for longer times. This footwear works by manipulating the ground-foot contact as the person walks or stands.

Conditions that require orthotic

There are several conditions of the foot that make walking and standing for a long time painful. Pes planus is when the feet are flat due to running, walking and standing. The plantar aspect of the foot becomes flat and the arches are overstretched. Moving becomes painful and the orthotic offers relief by creating an artificial arch. Calceneal spurs are spiky growths which develop on the heel. They are usually felt as sharp pains in the heel area. This pain can be contained by putting on a device which has a heel which is cushioned. In cavus foot, usually the first metatarsal reaches the ground before the others, causing it to be elevated. The foot device will work by reducing the elevation. Arthritis is characterised by cartilage inflammation which causes pain and swelling. It is very common in ankle joints. One can benefit a lot from orthotic as it reduces pressure and has better shock absorbing capabilities.

Types of Orthotic

There are different types of these footpieces with each specially designed to ease certain pains. Functional support feet which are abnormal. It prevents pes planus and absorbs shocks when running or walking. It supports the whole foot from the subtalar joints, midfoot joints, the arches of the foot to the tendons. In short, they prevent overuse damages and correct some deformities. The soft orthotic is made from a soft material. It is used as shock absorbers and for reinstating balance. It is usually used by those with foot malfunction and diabetes. The Rigid is made from a hard material such as plastic and graphite fibre which is moulded into the foot’s shape from the toes to the heels. Its primary function is for people who walk or stand for long periods of time. Semi rigid is primarily meant for athletics. It is manufactured using a soft material. Hard plastic is placed on the necessary places which fit the sport the device will be used for. It permits tendons to function without pain which is present when wearing normal shoes. Accommodative has devices that offer relief to minor pains and foot injuries. They are usually used to correct problems in children.

Advantages of Orthotic

This is a non invasive method of solving a problem that would otherwise require surgical intervention, it saves the beneficiary the pain and it is also cheaper than the surgery. The device can give permanent solutions to the problems if used continuously and consistently. The latest design also incorporates fashion in to its design as well.

The Burn Machines

While attending the 2008 Fitness Expo in Chicago, I came across “The Burn Machines!” Because I am always on the hunt for new, innovative fitness tools for my website, I was immediately interested. Plus, they were being demonstrated by a fellow I had heard of, Bill Gobin, Actor/Celebrity Fitness Trainer / Life Coach. He told me this was the only other product he endorsed besides the “Body Togs,” (which I already offer to my customers.)

Feel the BurnThe Burn Machine Asymmetrical Barbell System provides a greater challenge than traditional barbells or standard weight machines because of its Patented Asymmetrical Burn Counterweight and 360 degree rotating grips. All human physical motion is asymmetrical, so why not workout asymmetrically as well?

Featuring:

• 360 degree Rotating Grips• Patented Asymmetrical Design• Portability• Fluid transition from one exercise to the next

Three Innovative Products

1. Speed Bag

8 lb. Intermediate Speed Bag & 12 lb. Professional Speed BagAre fully chrome plated, made with durable welded construction and 360 degree rotating grips. This model, while small in weight, is designed to pack a punch in your upper body and core-strengthening workouts. They provide cardio-aerobic conditioning while toning muscles. These units are also useful for physical therapy rehabilitation programs and the wheel chair bound.

When you pick up the Speed Bag version of the Burn Machines, the first and most obvious workout should be that of mimicking boxing moves. You can grip the machine in a similar motion to a boxer punching a punching bag or a rehab patient doing an upper body workout “pedaling the bicycle.” Once you grip the machine, the motion continues straight out in front, up and down or side to side.

Working out with the Burn Machine Speed Bag is an experience in itself. It isn’t an end-all workout but it is a great supplement to any routine, whatever your goals are. The Burn Machine Speed Bag primarily works out your shoulders, biceps, triceps and trapezius muscles. It also helps with forearm strength/endurance, grip strength, hand-eye coordination and footwork.

The Top 2 Ab Exercises That Don’t Require Equipment

There are many different exercises you can perform to strengthen your core and define your abdominal muscles. One of the important points to remember about working out your abs is that you will not be able to lose very much body fat just by doing this one exercise.

People get tricked by infomercials selling the latest gadgets thinking that a few minutes on their magical machine daily will give them a models appearance with a wonderful 6-pack. To lose body fat you will need to consider a whole body workout because if you want a 6-pack, you will need to get rid of some of the fat that’s covering them as well as strengthening the muscles themselves.

Now I’m going to cover the most popular two ways that you can exercise those ab muscles and how to perform them properly without needing any type of special gadget, machine or gym equipment.

Method #1 – The Famous Crunch

Just about everyone knows about this simple exercise and has tried it at some time, however, not many know how to do them properly and minimizing the risk of injury.

1. Begin by lying on your back on a flat surface. You can use a mat or towel to soften the surface if you need. While bending your knees, also keep your feet kept flat on the floor.

2. Place your arms across your body so that your left hand rests just under your right shoulder and your right hand rests just below your left shoulder forming a “X”.

3. Tense your abdominal muscles while lifting your upper body off the ground about 6 inches and keeping your feet flat on the floor. Remember to keep your head and neck straight and in line with the rest of your body. You do not need to raise your body completely.

4. After holding the previous position for several seconds, slowly lower your body back down. The slower you go, the more work your abdominal muscles need to do therefore making them stronger quicker.

5. Repeat until tired but not strained.

Method #2 – Leg Raises

This exercise specifically targets the muscles of the lower abs. You can learn to do leg raises properly by following the 4 easy steps below:

1. Begin by lying with your back against the floor. Again, you can use a towel or rug to make it more comfortable. Place your arms by your sides and have your legs stretched out.

2. Next, lift up your legs until the soles of your feet are facing the ceiling. Then slowly lower your legs to the starting position, however, instead of going back to the floor stop a few inches from the ground and hold for a second or two and raise them once more.

3. Repeat until tired but do not strain. Tip: if you find this exercise difficult at the beginning try raising your legs only slightly off the ground or to whatever height you find comfortable.

Do not underestimate the two exercises listed above. They are very effective and can give you tremendous results if practiced regularly, preferably every second day. Being one of the fastest muscles to recover, you can perform ab workouts more regularly than most other body parts.

Ask Dr. Vito Clarizio: Implant Supported Dentures Give You the Comfort and Security of Natural Teeth

It is estimated that over forty-five million Americans have either full or partial dentures; and with dentures often comes the discomfort and worry that is caused by rubbing or slipping of the prosthesis. Most people with dentures are limited in the foods they can eat because they no longer have the strong, secure biting ability that they had with their natural teeth. And for others, denture wearing inhibits their comfort in social situations because of the ‘clicking’ noises that slipping dentures can often make.

With implant-supported dentures, all of these issues disappear and dentures begin to function just like your natural teeth once did. In just one visit to your dentist, your dentures can be retrofitted using a mini implant system that will fasten them securely to your jaw. The advantage of using a mini implant system is that because the implants are so small they can often be placed in the jaw without cutting an incision in the gum. Once a hole is drilled, Titanium screws are placed in your jawbone and over time the bone grows into the threads of the screw reacting to the implant in the same way that your bone would react to the root of a natural tooth. The head of the implant, which is shaped like a ball, remains on the surface of your gums and holes are drilled into your existing dentures to hold an O-ring that will snap over the ball of the implant…securely holding your denture in place.

Once the O-rings on the denture are snapped onto the ball of the screw, the implant provides a solid foundation for your dentures, letting them look and perform like natural teeth. In some cases, your dentist may decide to modify your denture by creating a hollow (in the denture) that is in alignment with the placement of the implant in your jaw. The hollow is filled with a soft reline material that secures the implant, yet allows some movement. This method is often used for patients who have a tendency to clench their teeth. And some dentists will use this method for the first few months and then drill the holes in the denture and fit them with the O-ring for snapping to the implant. Securing your dentures with implants can be done in one visit to your doctor where only a mild anesthetic is used for the placement of four titanium screws that are about the size of wooden toothpicks (or in some cases, a little larger). Because the procedure to place the implants is minimally invasive, many patients are able to enjoy a light meal an hour or so after having them placed and their dentures retrofitted to attach to the implants.

Because lower dentures are the most difficult dentures to wear due to their tendency to slip and their difficulty with staying in place on the jawbone, mini implants are most commonly used for people with lower dentures. They can, however, also be used to secure upper dentures, in which case six implants are usually required. While mini implants work for the majority of patients who have dentures, there are certain medical conditions that prevent using implants: Uncontrolled diabetes Ongoing radiation treatments to the jaw (typically used to treat cancer) Substance Abuse Immuno-suppressed patients.

Age does not typically prevent the use of mini implant supported dentures although conditions such as severe osteoporosis, dementia or Alzheimer’s can negatively impact the patient’s success with this procedure. Once your dentures are retrofitted with implants, you will still be able to remove them for cleaning and then reinsert them after your mouth and dentures have been brushed and cleaned.
